All relief funds have been granted to applicants in need. The collective is keeping the fund open so continuing to take donations and applications – and we will fulfill them as soon as funds are available.
Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) is part of a collective that is launching an Artist and Arts Worker Relief Fund. The fund will help secure food, health, and housing security for artists and employees of arts businesses and nonprofits. The process of reviewing submissions, and approving awards is ongoing. If you do not hear back right away, please know we are still working to raise funds to offer you support.

Funds will be available to Houston area artists and arts workers (arts nonprofit employees, gallerists, etc.) that have lost income and basic life securities as a result of COVID-19. Grants up to $1,000 will be available and serve as a bridge to public assistance options.
Soon, after we help our arts community with the most basic needs, we will turn to helping nonprofits to resume and continue their work.
The application is intended to be as straightforward as possible while collecting information necessary to distribute funds where they are needed. Please do not feel pressure to create lengthy responses. Simply share what you feel is necessary to describe the loss and need you are experiencing.
The goals of the fund are as follows.
- To secure basic life needs of arts professionals
- To reach as many individuals as possible
- To act as a temporary bridge for arts professionals to connect with more stable, more sustaining sources of assistance
Funding is available as follows.
- The online application is accessible below.
- Applicants may apply for up to $1000 or request a specific amount based on need.
- Once applications are verified, funds are provided on a first come first served basis with priority towards helping as many people as possible with dire need.
- Each individual receiving $600 or more will receive a 1099 tax document, per IRS requirements.
- Funding helps with lost earnings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Funding helps with health, housing, and food insecurity, as well as other self-identified basic needs, such as child care, utilities, and other expenses necessary to live a secure life.
- Applications will be reviewed weekly, with a target turn around time of one week.
- Because we anticipate a high volume of requests, awards may be less than the amount requested.
- The application will stay open as long as funds are available.
The following individuals are eligible.
- Only individuals are available for these funds, which support basic needs such as food, housing, and health security; organizations are not yet eligible.
- Applicants must have previously applied for public assistance before submitting an application. This includes assistance such as unemployment and the Paycheck Protection Program. Additional information is available at https://ready.haatx.com/covid-19#/cares-act/.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- Applicants must reside within the 8 county area: Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, Waller.
- Applicants who are artists or art workers.
